MAWDC Monthly Meeting - January

  • 03 Jan 2023
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • virtual via Zoom

MAW will be kicking off the new year with two terrific presentations at our January monthly meeting!

The meeting will be held via Zoom (link below).

MAW Veep Tom McCoy will share updates on club activities and fungi in the news, and Mitch Fournet will lead the virtual ID table, highlighting recent fungal finds sent in by our members.  You can send your pics to Mitch at forays@mawdc.org.

Next, Nature Forward mycologist and MAW member Serenella Linares will teach us all about slime molds - those magical little eukaryotes formerly known as fungi!

Shannon Adams will then present her talk titled "From Saucepan to Science: Taking the Next Step on Your Mushroom Journey." Shannon is a UX Researcher in the tech industry who has a passion for the genus Cortinarius.  When she emigrated from Australia 20+ years ago she was struck by the diversity and beauty of Cortinarius species she saw in the Washington Cascades, and started trying (and failing) to identify them. For the past 6 years she has been collecting and documenting species in the region and has over 1,000 Cortinarius collections in her personal herbarium. In 2021 she led publication of a new Cortinarius species - Cortinarius rufosanguineus. Whatever your level of expertise: Shannon will inspire you to get out and learn about mushrooms!
