MAWDC Monthly Meeting - October

  • 03 Oct 2023
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • virtual via Zoom
It’s officially fall! Time to head back to school with MAWDC as we showcase two graduate students who are MAWDC scholarship recipients!

The meeting will be held via Zoom (link below). MAW Vice President Tom McCoy will kick things off with updates on club activities and fungi in the news.  Program Chair Annie Weissman will lead the virtual ID table, highlighting recent fungal finds posted to the MAWDC iNaturalist Project and to our 2023 Sequanota Foray Project.

Our main program is a double-header! We welcome two recipients of MAWDC’s scholarships who will be sharing their exciting work.

Our first speaker is Daniel Taratut on "Mining the Decomposition Microbiome of Spotted Lanternfly, Lycorma delicatula, for Entomopathogens.”

Dan is pursuing his Masters degree at the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania, where he is studying how fungal pathogens affect the spotted lanternfly, and why fungal attacks on wildlife are rising worldwide.

Next up, Amy Wrobleski will give her talk titled, “Mushroom Hunting and Mycology in the Mid Atlantic.”

Amy is a
PhD candidate in the Ecology program at Penn State. She has been working on a variety of projects during her PhD, but her overall interests are in people's relationships to the environment. Her goal is to combine ecological and social science methods to better understand the world around us.
