Description: The talk will include a brief introduction to psychedelic mushrooms and those found in your area. Psychedelic mushrooms are becoming less controversial by the year. Learn the mushrooms and chemicals involved, their usage, effects, current research and future directions. Explore the medicinal aspects of psychedelic mushrooms, recent legislation, community efforts, microdosing, Amanitas and muscimol.
Bio: Richard Jacob is a scientist working in the field of proteomics identifying and quantitating peptides and proteins. His work has taken him from his home town of Cambridge in the UK to Germany and the USA. He became very interested in mushrooms when he moved to Pittsburgh and found morels growing in the backyard and joined Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club so that he could learn how to find more. In 2013 Richard used his scientific background to pioneer the clubs DNA barcoding project. In 2016 Richard was awarded the Harry and Elsie Knighton Service Award by NAMA for his contributions to the WPMC and wider community. Richard is also a member of the Mycological Technical Committee of the Pennsylvania Biological Survey and was recently awarded a research grant by the PA Wild Resource Conservation Program to analyse the soil from 5 different sites in western PA.
